Default A bit offtopic. I'm getting a new daily driver, which color?

I'm downsizing my daily driver a bit, or shall I say pint sizing

Which car do you guys prefer?

I'll be swapping out the drivetrain for a k20 supercharged motor eventually...

I like the black one, but the silver one gets the vote. The chrome trim helps it out a bunch.

As much as I liked the silver car, it was twice the price of the black one and VTEC powered. Nevertheless, it was up for sale for months before I came across it, and the market for a $25k mini is real small.

I decided to pick up the black one, and figure if I really like the car after a few months, I'll start digging into it. If it doesn't work out, I won't lose my ass.

This is hands down the most fun I have EVER had in any vehicle in all 31 years. I just finished coming back from some coffee with friends in Malibu and took it through Rush hour in Los Angeles. About an hour both ways. I came down sunset the entire way from silver lake to malibu and back up topanga. The car handles like a slot car, no joke, a guy in a 911 took off and was hauling through the tight turns through Palisades and the mini caught the guy without even squealing the tires in the turns.

For now the car needs new motor mounts or trans mounts, I need to swap the passenger seat for the driver, or get new seats. The driver seat cushions/springs are worn in and the reclining doesn't go back. No biggie. I can slide the seat back so far my feet don't touch the pedals and I can't reach the shifter. For anyone whos never sat in a mini, its actually mind blowing how much space they have inside. The heater ducting needs to be hooked up as well, but the heater blows fine for CA weather.

I am shocked how much power the motor makes in the upper RPM and believe the previous owner had the motor built with a racing cam, the tach in the dash needs calibration and is off, so its difficult to tell what RPM the ****er redlines at. Its still pulling hard at what feels like 6k RPM.

On the freeway I hit 90mph passing a prius . Car could use a 5th gear, but given the engine size, it'll still manage 40mpg humming along at 70mph. The suspension is a bit bouncy but responsive and gives great feedback during cornering. On the freeway its bouncy, but livable.

For any of you that have ever wanted a Classic mini, don't hesitate, go now, ride in one, experience it. Its like nothing I've ever experienced except a shifter kart I once drove.

For now I see no reason to swap the engine unless it proves unreliable. This car is a great way for me to learn my lines at autocross and track days and will help me be a better driver overall. Driving a momentum car is FUN.

I am actually scheduled to go see one for sale here locally on Sunday and hopefully test drive it. It's a 72 and he's asking $13k. Reading your post makes me more excited to go see it.

That 911 you encountered must have not had the driver mod installed yet.

Send me the pix/info, I would love to see it. Price sounds about right as long as its a nice car. It amazes me how many classic Mini's are on the market in the entire US at any given time. They truly are rare little beasts.

I don't think the 911 owner gave me a second look until I passed him. Subtle fast little critters they are.

I think everyone should ride in one/drive one at least once
