Well.... we drove 9 days. Almost 3,000 miles and without a single hiccup!
In Fort Worth now. And ready for the show tomorrow.
Anyone coming by —— I’ll be parked in the “Builders Choice” area rather than with the road tour parking. I’d like to at least be considered in the Early Truck of the year competition..... and I’m jetting out Sunday.
So --- I've never ever been a "car show" guy --- and I've never been a trophy guy. I've won a few -- most hit the trash can before I left the parking lot. Sorry -- In my mind, I've driving the trophy... not being a snob here -- just being honest. Driving 'em is what turns my crank....
I was "hoping" with this truck that I might be at least "considered" for an early truck "finalist"... Mostly I really I wanted to win it -- not for the "prestige" or that part - but because it comes with a Snap-On tool box.... and I'm a tool whore... so thought that would be like winning the Super Bowl for me.
No such luck -- they picked another very cool truck.
But I did get a "Pro's Pick" AND a GoodGuys Gazette Full Feature Award.... and you only can get ONE award -- so I had to make a choice. I chose the Full Feature award - and they're doing the photoshoot in the morning. To me - that's a killer award - because my kids / wife will have the truck and a magazine article with all the details and story etc to go along with it.
All in all it's just been another great trip with people that (after 4 years of doing these tours with them) I call friends.... and traveling the backroads of America in cool old cars - and seeing cool stuff - and going places you'd never ever go to for any reason... that's the best part of this whole deal. Miles make me smile.... and seeing my friends is even better.
The truck will go back to CHRA for the most minor clean up of some paint chips --- adjustment of the electronic transmission (I want it to shift "sportier) - and a shock and spring change.... chassis came with AFCO's -- and springs -- and with the trunk in the bed and two guys and "stuff" -- it needs better and different than what the chassis ships with. Standard adjustments after 3,000 miles of "thinking about it". I'd call that a pretty damn successful project build. If I live long enough to build another "whatever" CHRA will be handling that. They've just been a pleasure to work with - and I'm happy that they're also friends.
I fly home to Sun Valley in the morning --- and get in my pickup (F-450, not this truck) and drag my trailer which is packed -- to Scottsdale...

PPG must be doing a “primer” Ad...... They asked to use the 40 for one of their print Ads..... This IS NOT the verbiage they’re going to use - that’s just a place holder....

I love the shot and the color. It makes for a great add. It would be nice in a frame without the print, in fact I have a nice spot in my fish room for it.
