Default Location of MAF on LS7

I could really use some tech advice here, I want to keep this air intake simple and mount the the powerMAF 100(slot style) housing where the lines are in the pic. Mounting the air filter directly to the incoming side of the MAF housing. Do you think this will create a turbulence problem for the MAF? Any suggestions and info will be helpful, thanks- Rich

If you use the Gm performance parts style MAF sensor you can put a slot in your tube and the weld or epoxy the MAF sensor into the tube and not have the big clunky MAF sensor. It will fix all you problems and it is super simple and clean.

Email me at work tomorrow and I will get you the part number from GM.

Rodger- that looks great, I wish I could come through the core support like you did but I mounted my reservoirs there. My real qustion is If I mounted my filter where your second weld is, would the MAF work properly? I thought I read somewhere that the slot style MAF's were sensitive to location with in the tube regarding turbulence. Thanks, I might give you a call for that fitting.

Rich,
I could not get the pics from DSE's web site to copy, but if you go through the pictures of Stewart warners blue 69 they have a picture of the MAF location on a intake similar to yours. It looks like they put it pretty close to the 90 into the throttle body.
Not an expert opinion but rather an observation.
Hope it helps.

From the GMPP instructions for their current production blade MAF:

Ensure the MAF Sensor is mounted in the middle of a minimum
6 inch length of 4 inch diameter tube, and is a minimum of 10
inches from the throttle body.

Yours looks AOK based on this spec. In fact much much better than what many people do which is place it right in front of the throttle body which really messes it up.

Great shots under the hood there! More would be great!

The more straight tube you can get before and after the MAF, the better the signal to the ECM will be. This is needed more as the cam selection gets more aggressive.

There is also a honeycomb material available that you can install on the inlet side of the MAF tube to help stabilize the flow into the sensor. Of course I can not find that info when I need to :-) With the honeycomb material you will see very little if any HP loss.
