I own a 68 Pontiac Catalina Station Wagon with front drum brakes and i d like to install disc brakes. I contacted CPP but they told me that they don't offer a kit for the Catalina as it's not the same suspension as the Impala...
I thought that GM full size shared the same chassis and suspension?!
Discs were an option on these back in 68 so you should be able to find either a service replacement kit or an upgrade kit from one of the major aftermarket companies. A little more searching and you are sure to be successful. There are actually a series of YouTube videos of a drum-to-disc swap on a 68 Catalina two door. I could only watch a little of a couple of them before I gave up, but if you can stick it out the guy doing the swap must mention where he got his kit. Good luck, be patient, and I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for. BTW, got any more pics of your 68 wagon?
Gavin.
Do you have a picture of your suspension or your spindles? I am working ona 68 Parisienne for one of my employees, (Canadian version of a catalina)
and we are using wilwood components on a CPP drop spindle.
On our model it shares the same control arms as an Impala.....
You'll find that on the pontiacs, some things are the same and some are different. Usually the control arms and spindles are the same (usually - not always especially in the 60s) but other suspension items are often completely different, like center link, idler arms, pitman arms, etc. Believe me, I found out the hard way.
The guys to ask specifically about the '68 Catalina would be over on PY. There will almost certainly be some guys there who will know exactly what interchanges on one.
Wow, thanks David! I love wagons, (have a 77 Lemans Safari), and especially Poncho wagons. The stance of your Catalina kills and the wheels are perfect. Man, what an awesome push-car that would be for a nostalgia race car! Thanks again for the pics and let us know how the brakes work out. Cheers! Gavin.
