Default B&M 70297 trans cooler

My radiator doesn't have an automatic transmission fluid cooler in it so I got this B&M cooler for it B&M 70297. Have any of you used this as a primary cooler? Its going to be used on a 4l85 E behind my LSA in my Camaro. Any opinions?

Wayne,
Transmission guys will tell you you need heat in the transmission fluid. Like your engine oil, ATF being too cool is not good for the trans. Every cooler instructions I have ever seen tell you to plumb in a cooler BEFORE the cooler in your radiator so it can heat the fluid back to coolant temp before it goes back to the transmission. If you're really locked into that radiator, best practice would be to wire a temp sensor & relay to your trans cooler fan & cycle it to control fluid temp. Not sure how practical that is though. Sorry....

Bill,
It comes with the thermostat. I think he's good to go.

Wayne,
You may want to monitor the temp with a gauge or thermocouple for a few longer drives to see how it does. With a lock up converter you'll probably be fine. Rush hour traffic in July is the acid test I would think.

That's what I'm thinking about wether its big enough to cool on its own. I know it has a thermostat on the fan I think 180 degrees on. if it big enough and it ended up needing a thermostat in the oil lines that's not a big problem. Don't want to kook a new trans.

I didn't realize that. Good to know.
