Default Hood hinges

I have a 70 Chevelle in DP getting ready to do body work have everything gapped. I bought a set of Detroit speed hood hinges and I believe there R B hinges with D S name on them. Anyway the instructions say to measure your hood mounting points and put and shim hinges to match but they look like they need to be shimmed maybe a good 1/4 of a " or more is this normal? Thanks for any help!

I've used over half a dozen RB hinges on Mustangs and sometimes you have to shim them and sometimes you don't... all depends on the car. Worst one we had did need about 1/4" of shim/spacer on the top for each side to level the hinge out.

Build tolerance in the 60's wasn't what it is now.... 1/4" long here.... 1/4" short here.... And then there are these chinese American Muscle cars that must be a completely different shape... everytime I get a replacement part from China I swear it was made to go on a different vehicle!

Thanks. I shined them a little on the forward fender bolt to hinge. They weren't kidding when they say they need to be perfect alignment. I will take the hood back off measure shim and if it all works I will machine some shims to match the back side of hinge. Hope I didn't hurt the hinge bearings with how I did it.
