Default Tire question

Just purchased some Budnik Famosa's for my 67 convertible. I ordered 17x8 for the front and 17x11 for the rear.
What tires should I go with. Do people go with a little taller tire in the rear? Clueless what to go with on the front and back so any feedback is greatly appreciated. Want to go with a 315 in the rear. Anyone have any pics with the same setup?

You are very limited to the rear. The smallest tire that should ever go on a 11" wide wheel is a 285/40, then there is 295/40 (race version only) and the almighty 315/35. Whichever tire you choose for the rear will help to determine the tire for the front. With an 8" front wheel (too big a split in my opinion) you should be running a 255/40 or so to match the 285/40 and maybe even a 265/40 (if it will clear) if you go with a 315.

Jeremy, you can see Tony Rose' car here . He's running 17's with what I believe is a 315/245 combo.

Maybe he'll chime in and give some details.

Well DSE told me to go with the 17x11 and 17x8 with their Minitub kit.
Is there other info on Tony's car. Rims are on their way and would like to order the tires pretty soon. Thanks for all the help!

Cool thanks

Looks like most guys on the site are doing the 245/40's on the front and
something like a 315/35's on the back?

I guess my question is will a 315 fit on my 17x11 with 7 backspacing with no problems?

Anyone with tire manufacturer preferences please let me know. This is going to be a fun cruiser for me and not to too heavy on performance. Put a ZZ4 in it. Going for looks mainly.

Ok, you guys found me!!

I have 17x8 w/ 5" bs and 17x10 w/ 5" bs (narrowed rearend) and use a 245/45 and 315/35 tire, with this combo both side walls are the same at 4"...something I had to have!! This is the widest tire you can run on the front with a stock subframe and not have the tires rub the frame at full lock. Also, the 315 is the widest tire that comfortably fits under a '67-'68 camaro (without rolling the fender lip)...in my mind 335s only clear the wider fenders on the '69...but hey that's just my opinion, but it is based on the thought that if a tire EVER rubs, it actually doesn't fit...again, just the way I see it.

What back spacing did you order? Can you do the full DSE Deep Tub with a convertable and keep the top mech.? I'f it makes any difference I cleared my 315s with just a 2.5" tub not the ever so common 3" tub.

Here is Joe Sears' car he has a 255 up front but basically the same setup as what I have.

Hey sweet wheels by the way, I love the Famosas, I actually almost got the Fontanas but then found a great price on my Pentias...so that's what I went with...you'll love the Budniks they are great quality!!
