Hey all, newbie here. Maybe this has already been addressed, but I've got issues with my 79 Olds Cutlass G-body wagon (same as Malibu, Monte, Regal etc..) . I had some loose steering issues and found a nasty outer tie rod. Just replaced all tie rods, adjusters, upper ball joints, center link, idler arm, shocks, and cut the springs to drop the car 3" while I was in there. There's still play in the steering wheel and I've tracked it to the box. If I'm gonna pay for a new box I want a 12:1 deal but I'll have to save a few pennies for that one. I've heard that GM boxes are adjustable to take up some slack, any tips how to do this in the mean time? Thanks in advance. I'll post photos towards the end of the week.

i bought a 12:1 steering box from a nascar team on ebay.. works great.. but you will have to contend with alittle effort as they are valved ot run at 6000 rpm.. but they are tight and run about 200 bucks on ebay

ill even sell you mine cheap in a couple of weeks as im going with one that is valved so my girlfriend can drive the car.... (i know im nuts... but it sure is nice not being the designated driver just because no one else can turn the steeringwheel)

Thanks for the responses. I'll look into the Camaro thing. Trouble is here in Utah not many muscle cars in junkyards. Plenty of Jeeps, minvans and Suburbans though.

Don't think I'd be interested in a racing deal if it's a bit of a fight at low rpms. I still have the 2.41 gears out back so unless I'm on it, the car rarely sees over 3000. I tow a small trailer to shows with my booth supplies and I'll be towing my Nova to the track with it when it's up and running again, so maybe something a little easy on the forearms is in order. Thanks though!
