Default aftermarket brakes question

Maybe this is a stupid question but if I dont ask I will never know....Should the front brakes always be bigger than the rear?

The front brakes do the majority of the stopping, so in theroy your back brakes do not need to be as big as your front brakes. So I think that it is more correct to say the back brakes do not need to be as big as the front. The real question is how big front brakes does one need? Bigger is not exactly better. Sometimes bigger means heavier, and greater inertia moment, and the larger rotor becomes a liabilty to it's self.
