I'm thinking.....ummm no! I realize back then no one knew what the value of these cars would be these days ...but even back then certainly no. 1 wouldn't have been turned into a race car.

That car has been up for sale a few time before with LOTS of questions and not alot of answers. If I remember the vin may be real but not for that car. I think it was talked about on yenkos.net or team camaro.

I google'd 67 camaro VIN tag, and one that came up showing how to ID the tag says 00001 lol...

that racecar tag looks pretty legit though, I wonder what makes people think its not the real car? Also, that thing is badass regardless of the vin, put a motor in it and drive it as is!
