Default Need some assistance on speedo cable

I've never replaced a speedo cable on a 69 before--guess what, I have to now. Somehow at RTTC, the zip tie which secured it to the crossmember let go and it came to rest on top of the exhaust pipe. Suffice to say, it didn't work well having it there. I kept wondering what I was smelling--thought it was fear--my own when on the road course.

So, does the dash pad come off to get this done? Does the dash itself come out--both? With the Vintage Air ducting under there, it doesn't appear that I can do it from under the dash. I'd hate to take it all out just to find out I didn't have too--so thought I would learn from others experience here. Also, any advice on replacement cables? Classic Industries, Year One---etc?

Thank you for input!

Doug

By the time you get your answer here, you'll have it in the car.

I have done it before where I just reach underneth where the speedometer is & push the retaining clip with pulling on the cable to release.. not easy.. but better than having to remove all the dash cluster..

I have always used the factory replacement cables fron Rick's First gen Camaro because it comes with the factory firewall grommet already installed..

x2, no need to pull dash to change it.
