Default Paint Help: Sunset Orange

Ok. I am ready to get some paint on my 1/12 camaro. I am spraying it Sunset Orange. It is PPG Delstar. What would be an appropriate base coat? I was thinking of a gloss black. Also I am sure that the answer is yes. But is a urethane clear too harsh for acrylic enamel? I want this thing to have a show winning shine, along with rich deep color.

White base will help the orange pop.

seems like I had heard somewhere that a black base makes pearl and metallic colors POP. A model car paint vendor who sells formulas of auto paint sells a new line they made call fire pearls which are sprayed over a black base. Here are the results...I am EXTREMELY pleased!!!

You could experiment and spray over something black then something white and see how it turns out. Usually if you spray a color over white it becomes brighter. Spray yellow over a black base and watch what happens. It will be a lot darker than if you spray over a white base. It will also require more coats to cover. Same with neon colors. I recently sprayed Sunset pearl orange over white base and it turned out real real good. Looks killer in the sun. I sprayed Heathers helmet and a junky old hood that I had just to see if I liked the color. You can see those pics here. http://www.pro-touring.com/forum/sho...ght=girlfriend
It was the first time I painted flames on anything.

thanks, there are more pics in the artwork forum. I've got plans for a pair of late model f-bodies in the same color. Think blackbird pontiac and a camaro brother

Well you just proved my point. You painted over black and it is a lot darker than what ours looks like over white. Case closed. Looks great either way but definetly darker over black.

I just realized I should have stated the color more precisely. I was shooting an OE GM color. Sunset Orange pearl I beleive. It is most commonly seen on late model F-bodies. Much darker to begin with than the HoK offering.
