Hi there, I am building a 69 camaro pro touring car with a ls3 stroker engine and was wondering should I go with a high volume or high pressure oil pump ?Thanks, Mike
High pressure. You should also port the oil passages of the pump and engine block.....or buy a ported oil pump.....the LS motors have a lousy oil passage architecture where the oil enters at the timing chain area the intersection of the 2 passages isn't always drilled to full diameter.....then the oil has to make a second hard 90 degree turn to get to the rear of the block and down to the filter.....the passages at the rear going to the filter pad are also in need of attention with a die grinder. It's no wonder GM has warranty issues with the high winding LS7 motor based on what I found on my dry sump pan.....the casting flash was horrible at the filter mounting area. You should also drill the drain hole in the lifter trays if you plan on running 7000RPMs for extended lengths of time.
