I got a container large enough for some bots nuts and various other things. I filled it to the top with just distilled vinegar, no diluting. It worked within hours - spotless
OK - one week in the cold garage soaking in the mixture resulted in these pics. Paint is still on and has some of the molasses coating but looking good.
Only a quick clean off of the molasses coating, but nothing beyond that.
For parts that aren't going to be "seen" --- I just use a "rust converter" primer such the stuff you can buy from Eastwood. I've used many cans of this stuff -- it's quick and simple and makes parts like this ready to paint. They must be "clean" of course from grease and dust....
