Opinions on frame rail patching

I'm hoping some metal fab experts can chime in here.

My car is a 69 Mustang Fastback and I'm going to be installing a DSE Aluma-Frame.

I have some pitting on the frame rails more on the drivers than passenger.

Is it safe to make the patch in multiple pieces or should it be one piece?

I'm no expert, but for the price, I would buy the patches and replace as much as needed in one piece... Ron

The top plates from DSE that weld on will cover most of that pitting and reach good metal front and back. Structurally, I don't think there is anything to gain by patching it.

Like RedFire said, replacing that whole section would be a better option.

Hey Donny how's the Mustang coming along? You don't think the metal is compromised enough to warrant replacement? What about penetration of the welds to pitted metal?

I should have been clearer. I don't think patching the top only to cover it up with the 1/2" thick plate gains you anything compared to just running it as is.

I do believe that replacing that entire section of frame rail like what was linked is the best option.

The passenger side is fine, the driver's side is the one that bothers me, the top inside corner being pitted is the problem as that is where you will perimeter weld the top plate.

I would buy the replacement rail.
