Your way was what I would have done if stock pump could stay.
I saw somewhere Davis pumps specs. Zero (0) perssure at full speed?!?!
BMW Piersburg still has 0.5 Bar / 7psi at full tilt. Friend off mine has run one of these for years in his twin turbo sbf.
Easy to buy (ebay.de) and cheap ~250€.
