Question mounting the new Vintage Air Gen 5 for 69 Camaro

Vintage Air recently released a completely redesigned "Gen 5" version of their HVAC system for the 1969 Camaro. I was planning on using the Detroit Speed mounting bracket to install their previous Gen IV version but it appears it won't work anymore with the new Gen 5 since the case and basically everything else has been completely redesigned.

Just wondering if anybody has tried mounting the new Gen 5 with the DSE bracket or modifying it to work? Any other similar mounting solutions? I have a smooth firewall so I didn't want any mounting hardware poking through. I know the Gen 5 is probably too new but just wanted to see what guys were doing when they get their hands on it. Thanks!

Thumbs up

Dutchboys is doing a camaro for member Charley Lillard (Clill). If you look at this thread starting at post 307 for the mounts they did. Great pieces, I want them in my Gen V when I put it in my car.

The one you referenced is a 67 so it's going to be a bit different but the approach might help

UPDATE:

I bought the Vintage Air 961245 (561245) "Gen 5" system for my non-AC 69 Camaro. Have the evaporator in hand now and it appears the general shape, size, and mounting locations are the same as the Gen IV evaporator.

However, Vintage Air told me they didn't think the DSE mounting bracket would work with the Gen 5. I also called DSE and they didn't know if the bracket would work with the Gen 5 and said they didn't have any plans to verify or update it at this time.

I don't feel like wasting $200 to buy the DSE bracket to see if it'll work so I will attempt to mount the Gen 5 evaporator by welding studs on the interior firewall to mount the new Gen 5 mounting bracket and still have a smooth firewall.

A side note, the Gen 5 system is MUCH MUCH nicer and more refined than the previous Gen IV system. The blower motor is also 20% more powerful.

I’m going to guess the likelihood of DSE producing a bracket for the Gen V is just about zero now that they belong to Holley.

You are going to have to design your own.
