Default Grill

Not sure this is the right area or where to post this.

I have a 69 with an RS front on it. With the space taken up & where the pipes (intercooler & a/c) are running I can’t open the headlight doors anymore. Other the the headlight brackets & the grill itself is there anything else I need to change it to a standard/SS grill with the open headlights?

Does anyone have any pics of where the edges of the grill sits in relation to the headlights? Just don’t want to change it all over & find I’ve got a similar problem mounting the new grill. Being in Australia it’s not easy to find another one to compare mine & for rego I need the doors to be able to fully open.

Not sure if anyone can help but will the SS grill fit in place of the RS grill without changing the guards (fenders)?

I’ve got the headlight buckets changed & fitted. The grill just doesn’t seem to want to sit back fully but I can’t see where it’s catching to stop it. Could be the 2 small tabs on either fender at the top but it seems to be the lower section in the middle is the bigger issue.

since they make these:

to convert std fenders to RS, it would make sense your RS fenders need them removed to fit a std grille.

How much more clearance do you need to fully open the headlight doors? I had the same issue on mine. I wound up cutting the door ears almost up to the screw which gained like 1/2” on each side. You can’t see anything I did since it’s all covered by the grill. Maybe you can reposition the intercooler higher or lower. Or get a new one that’s slightly not as wide.

Just seen the replies. Ended up bending a couple of brackets one side that seemed to give us enough clearance.

Doesn’t fit perfectly on the drivers side whereas the passenger side is in nicely. But for the moment it’s in & will do the job.
