Guys, but what about the hoops? I'm 99% sold on the tinted clear, but it's the hoops I'm indecisive about. Like I said, the polished hoops will look like crap in a years time. I know I can have them high polished with a machine by a shop to return the new luster to them, but that's too much trouble. I also, know I can "so call" do the polishing myself, but again, that's too much trouble and definately too much arm/hand work and then it still won't be that shiny. Chrome is a low maintenance deal. Soap them up, rinse them off and there you have it. Plus, if I keep the bumpers chrome, there has to be a little bit of chrome somewhere else. Wouldn't y'all agree? And the thing with the chrome bumpers is, as I pictured earlier in my thread...I found front and rear NOS bumpers which I spent alot of money on and may need to remain chrome by me leaving them alone. Wouldn't y'all further agree? It's funny to me how guys rant and rave and make fun of chrome hoops on wheels and they have two big ole front and rear chrome bumpers and chrome trim pieces themselves on a car that's supposed to be totally blacked out.

I think keeping the hoops shiny what ever way you do it will be fine. How is the polished and cleared hoops ? I never saw any in person but the OEMs uses it.

Marcus - that's what I did. Lots of wheel pics in my build thread or I can email you some. The clear dulls it some, and I am told gets nasty after some abuse. If I were to do it over again I'd go straight polish on the hoops.

Thanks Tone. I tracked my wheels on line and they won't get to HRE until Feb. 29th. Bout time they get the wheels in and break them down, send them off to get the chrome stripped off, get them back and brush the centers I guess I'll have my mind made up. LOL!! I'm going with the brushed/tinted clear centers and I'm leaning towards the chrome hoops to match the chrome bumpers.

Wheel Update....

Well, I got my quote from HRE yesterday and I was quoted $2200 for all of the work. Of course this sent me over the top. So, I called them today and had a man-to-man or shall I say customer-to-manufacturer talk. After much debate I got the charges reduced to $1600. Still a hell of alot of money, but alot cheaper considering they have to strip off the chrome and then brush the centers and powdercoat them. Believe it or not, I somehow got them to strip off the chrome for free. That saved me alot of money considering they have to send the wheels out and outsource that part of the process. There was no dealing on the labor to brush them. Lol!! So, of the $1600, most of that is the labor to brush them and the cost of the 7" outer hoops for the rear to make them 13" wide. The 7" outers had to be custom ordered as they don't keep them in stock due to not many people requesting a 20" wheel with a 7" outer hoop. I hated to use the old "I'm a repeat customer trick", but I had to use one of my trump cards and tell him I just bought a set of 22" 948R wheels for my 68 C10 shortbed last year. I told him the 22's plus the 20's for my Chevelle should speak volumes about me as a customer. So, after I gave him the serial numbers to verify my 22's, he gave me a much better deal. Here are a couple of pics of my 22's for my C10. No build thread yet until I finish the Chevelle. Got alot of neat stuff for the truck though, but I won't spoil it yet. By the way guys, I chose to go with the brushed/tinted clear centers with chrome hoops.
