Jayson:

Your build is very interesting to watch. I really appreciate you taking the time to include everyone her on all the work your putting into this.

If you don't mind me asking, "What do you do, or what did you do for a living?". You are obviously in a very enviable position to be doing this type of "Dream" car build.

I want to follow in your foot steps in my next life.

Take care and keep the pictures coming.

Thanks,

Ty

x2 to the comments on pictures... love the effort you put into documenting, follow this therad closely...

what has struck me about the viper is how "home made" it looks.. i mean the chassis looks like somthing i could have made.. except i like to think my welds look nicer

love what you are doing to it... personally i think that the biggest improvement on the whole is propably the added sound and heat insulation (im not downplaying the turbos... but for drivabillity its the little things that count, ant you are addressig all of them)

But most members here are building and creating machines instead of "tweaking" an already built car like my Viper.

You guys are true builders

Hey Ty,

I am an engineering technologist by day and Viper wrencher by night.

The reason I am able to do these mods and/or changes is the fact that I am doing them over an extended period of time...like maybe 4 years. Plus I am doing the work myself. I wouldn't be able to afford all these changes if I were to send it to a Tuner and/or try to finish the Viper in a shorter period of time.

I am a perfectionist and really enjoy taking the time to do things the right way. I would much rather investigate an idea and learn all about it before I decide to go ahead. This is the only way I can reduce mistakes and possible headaches. This is why my Viper will not be complete until probably 2009.

My philosophy is "Do it right or don't do it at all!"

Oh and here is something that probably most of you didn't know...Vipers are selling for the most affordable prices ever. Mostly due to the struggling US economy. So now is the time to purchase a Viper if you ever wanted one. I'm hoping to purchase another one sometime soon.

Hope this answers your questions.
Cheers
Jason

I must say that I am absolutely blown away and honored by your comments and of course other members comments about my build. I am having a great time documenting and posting information of my build.

I'm happy to hear the members are enjoying it. Needless to say this thread will be going on and on and on for a long time.

The chassis is basically all square tubing type. The chassis is very robust and reinforced to handle the massive amount of HP/TQ these cars can produce.

You got that right that it is the little details that make the biggest differences. The interior cabin of the Viper is an absolute oven without any heat barrier. The exhaust running along the side of the car and the hood is very closed in...which doesn't allow the engine to exhaust the heat very well. Makes for killer heat

I've got many, many more details to come. Enjoy the progress.

Just wanted to update the members on progress. I have been sick for the past couple of weeks and therefore haven't done much of anything. But I've still done some stuff.

I just purchased the speakers, sub and amplifier. I will be fabricating a custom sub enclosure to fit in the rear of the Viper. I'll post pics as soon as I start work on the system.

The door hinges have a flexible tensile piece of steel that the door hinge acts against to provide tension when the door is open. Over time the original grease dries out.

If the grease has dried out, you'll hear a 'pop' noise when opening the door. This is a tell tale sign that new grease is required.

If new grease is not applied it is very possible and likely that the flexible piece of steel will break . If it does break the only fix is to purchase a complete new hinge...and that isn't cheap.

Needless to say I took the opportunity to apply new grease because my hinges were drier than a beer-fart-in-the-desert.
