As it turns out the block has seen better days. As I understand it, when Greg bought the 32 it ran rough and had a bad vibration. So after a leak down test and a quick check on the bore diameter. Failing leakdown tests and seeing the bore at .060 over already they moved on to the land of crate motors.
When Greg and I looked at the block on Tuesday it looked great. We didnt measure anything. It only had about 600 miles since built. We assumed it was never broken in and the rings never seated. The bores LOOKED really good. I had the machinist check the bores and it turns out the bores are all out of round, have some bad taper and have been honed WAY beyond anything that can be used. Whoever machined it last was not qualified to floss thier own teeth.

So I am looking around for a decent block now. They are everywhere and cheap. It shouldnt be any trouble.

I hope no one gets the wrong impression. I am very gratefull for all of this. I only mentioned it this afternoon to Greg because it answers why it ran rough and that was something both he and I were curious about already.

Besides, its going to make a really cool coffee table base now.

I am happy to announce that I will be running rear suspension from Scott Mock.
This system is just like the one Kevin Miller has been using with great results in his 69 Camaro. (Kevin recently changed to a full Ridetech system)

I have also asked Scott to make a duplicate of the lower dash and gauge insert in his current second gen for me.

Scott has a few other customer projects he is working on now. When those are finished up then he will start fabrication on my parts order. He & I have been talking about a few other items for my car. I will update as we get things dialed in.

sweetness! That's what I'm considering having Scott do for me as well. The more I look at it all while I wait patiently for the time I can actually work on my car, the more I think I'll keep it very simple with bolt on parts for the stock front sub and get a quality rear suspension to replace the leafs.

Good luck moving forward from here.

Thanks Trey! You should get in touch with Scott and have him build a system for you. Its almost a bolt in deal. Its also cost efficient and track proven.

Thanks Eric. I've got to decide if I want to start with another car or not first. I need my quarters replaced etc in the rear and am just not sure if I can justify the cost of panel replacement when I can find whole bodies for less than one quarter panel costs. Decisions decisions, lol. I like what Scott did with his 72.

Been a couple weeks since I checked in on this thread. Looks like things are going great with the generous donations from Greg!

I had a thought on a good use for Mr. Weld's hefty but unusable block donation. Why not turn the block in for scrap and buy something you need for the car? Turn the block into the GW hood pins or shifter or or whatever? You'd be one step closer to completion, have a great story, and not spend time or money on a side project like a table.

Time for a project thread!!!

Good point John. I hadn't though about that. I will find a place to take it.
I think I found a replacement block close to home for dirt cheap
And maybe a set of rods too. That leaves the cam & pistons, bearings, rings and gaskets to round out the bottom end.

I posted pics a couple pages back of the parts. Not much to look at while piled up in the bed of my truck, but as a completed motor they are great.
