Dear Holschen:
Thanks for the dialog. Please don't take any offense, some may agree, some may not, part of the reason I wrote it was not to say Electric Cars Suck! I promise you. I have an electric car. (It's called a Golf Cart and I use it at the farm. Works like a champ)
What I was trying to point out was that much of the, "Data/Science/Etc.", about us needing to save the planet, is a political sales job aimed at an ever larger Government having more power over everyones lives through the use of Junk Science and emotional, "Sound Bytes". Please also take note of all the species having known to exist that are now extinct. There are many more extinct organisms that we know of than all the current known animals of the world, and 99.999% of these were extinct prior to the arrival of Homo Sapiens. We (Humans) are a very recent organisms compared to Geologic History.
Without question Nuclear Energy is a very clean abundant source of safe power. We in the United States are Idiots for not using it. (This last comment is only pointed at the people who, "If the shoe fits.....") There are many here that understand that many countries in Europe have been using it for decades. With the new technology we have available to us now Nuclear Energy is a Bargain.
That said, while it can help generate electricity, if We refuse to use it, it's the equivalent of it not even existing. If We Truly had an Energy Crises or a Planet Crisis it would be in use here extensively.
We had a "Energy Crises", back in the 70's and it was nothing more than a big hot steaming pile of political excrement. This one we supposedly have now, along with the, "Global Threat", is the same darn thing with a twist. Without Big Government the world is going to come to an end as we no it within 10-100 years depending on which nut you listen to.
I study History as a hobby and have done so for about 25 years, and this same garbage has been going around for hundreds of years. One time it's the coming Ice Age the next time it's the sun burning up the planet. Honestly, Scouts Honor, this is a historical fact. Nature, including the Sun is going to do what it is going to do no matter what we do as a species.
The Satire I put into that post was my way of using the same BS that has been fed to us on a daily basis now for over 10 years. Prior to that, "We" were worried of the coming Ice Age. A good study of Geology and Earths Historic Geology, destroys any attempt for someone to successfully defend Global Warming. Please make note that Al Gore NEVER debates anyone defending his story. He only speaks with people he has convinced that this whole thing (GW) exist.
I will bet anyone $1000 that we will see in our life time the folly in all of this.(GW) Our pseudo friends in the far east will do that for me. We don't and never will have the power to keep China from developing into an industrial giant, and as of last year they are officially the worlds #1 Global "Green House Gas" polluter.
All this aside, cars don't run on wind power, and even if electricity was free we don't have the technology to create vehicles that can satisfy the "Real" needs of modern civilization. Trucks hauling Freight, Trucks pulling trailers, Airplane hauling people, the list goes on and on.
The dirty secret in the US anyway is that, Yes we don't have enough energy to supply our own needs, this however is a TOTALLY voluntary condition on our part.
We, the USA have literally hundreds of years of oil reserves here in the lower 48 states, in territorial waters and Alaska. My family has over 120 years in the petroleum Energy Business, and our Natural resources are absolutely HUGE. There are billions of barrels of oil sitting in the ground in and around our boundaries and trillions of cubic feet of natural gas. These fields of oil and gas are here and companies know where it is.
Our problem is purely political in nature. It is almost impossible to develop these fields, because of the Special Interest groups we have here who focus on so called Environmental issues.
"The people who can control the energy resources, will control everything and everyone else". That is why it is an integral part of every Political Parties Policies world wide.
In the USA we have not built one additional refinery since the mid 1970's. Yes 30 years, We have built NO ADDITIONAL refining capabilities. Our population has increased and our needs have increased, but our production capabilities have NOT increased, hence our lack of domestically created energy.
The burning of fossil fuel or any fuel is a Natural part of nature. Volcano's, lightning strikes, forest fires and so on are all natural occurrences. While undesirable, from our perspective it is a part of life and has been since the beginning of the Earth as We know it now.
If you are skeptical of any of these facts, check them out yourself. Just do so honestly and don't base your research on websites of politically motivated organizations.
I promise my intension is not to come off as harsh or unfriendly, it is just I want to be perfectly clear about what I am trying to say so I have stripped the BS off of the facts.
No one with kids would ever want to ruin the lives of our loved ones. I have 4 kids and six Grand kids. The last thing I would ever want to do is hurt them or ruin their future.
Wind power could help to a certain amount but even the people who insist that they are concerned about the planet, don't want those, "Unsightly",things in their backyard.
I do apologize for interjecting a tangent into this thread. I do like the design of these cars a lot. Except I picture them with a twin Turbo LS7 in them instead of 4 "D" cell batteries. <---------- Yes, this is sarcastic but only for a joke, nothing more.
I hope this has helped to illustrate from which direction I come from. If you are interested in some geologic facts, I'll be happy to point you in the right direction.
Please have a great day, please continue posting anything you feel would make this site any better or interesting, and by all means please don't take anything I say personally or as an attack focused on you. I assure you that was not my intension.
Please feel free to rebut anything and everything if you feel a need. In the meantime.
Take care,
Best Regards,
Ty O'Neal
