I have heard that soda will take rust away too. But Rick would be the expert on it. Where are you taking welding classes from? I want to do the same as depending on my brother is not working out.

The class is Southwest Community College over off of Macon. http://www.southwest.tn.edu/

It is a lot of fun. They cover everything. You'll learn how to MIG, TIG, Arch, Oxyacetylene and Plasma Cut. The next class you can take after this one gets you certified. It was $400 but I look at it as an investment for my hobby. Rather learn how to do it right in the class than screw up the car.
