I'm doing this in the garage, I've painted three cars and numerous parts over the past several years using a standard respirator; so I guess I'm not sensitized to iso's. I never intended to paint this much, but, I am. That's why I'm thinking I should get one of these fresh air systems before my next paint project.

this is a little off topic but i worked at a body shop for about a year and a half . I was painting a car and i got serious over spray blowback in my eyes i was wearing a respirator but only glasses over my eyes. After that day i was getting serious eye infections kind of like pink eye but much worse. Towards the end of my auto body career i was in and out of the eye doctors weekly. When i left i tried collecting unemployment and the shops been fighting my claim ever since..... has anyone ever heard of a case like this??

In my research, I found that isocyanates in automotive paint will affect your eyes by seeping the moisture out. It's pretty nasty stuff, so I wouldn't be too surprised if this contributed to your condition. Good luck on your claim; I hope it works out.

been painting and doing body work for almost 20 years and know many painters, never heard of anything like that, though I've had few customers that get headache from beeing around freshly painted car

I used to work in an isocyanate unit and can agree that it is bad stuff. But in paint I'm not sure that it's not the benzene and other solvents that causes irritation. As far as an scba(self contained breathing apparatis) Scott makes many units that use cannisters instead of an air bottle. I have tried these masks out on other many harsh chemical and they seem to work great against odors. I plan to use one when I paint my car. If you go with a scba/mask, I would deffinately go with scott.

That I am not sure of because they are company issued. I believe there were some on ebay.
