Great builders, but you hear very little about them...

Alan Johnsons is well known guys, i love there style
and i also like Pinkees they have some major car builds under there belt!

We have worked on alot of cars from shops that are not known outside of there regions,Some of these guys can build with the best.Money and the right customer just has not walked thru there doors.The biggest factor IMO is for a shop to be able to work on different style of cars,Street Rods,Street Machines,Custom and be good at all those styles.There is a post about not knowing who Johnson's Rod Shop was,They were punching out some of the best Street Rods around before the PT style was going strong.There are alot of good builders out there that are capable with any style of car put in front of them,Those are the one's that are waiting for that right customer.Then you will here about them.

Would you say it usually takes just one well funded 'right' customer (one that lets a talented shop 'do their thing') initially to launch the builder into a sustained growth period?

It will get them noticed,They will need to back it up with another good one tho.The bad thing in the car world is everybody wants to see the next big project coming out.By the time the next years show start, Last years great cars are forgotten about(most of them).There is some great builders that only put out a car every three to five years,Most people will forget there names.

I've been on this forum reading and looking at everyone's projects for awhile now. I thought to myself why not throw something a little different in here. I can say that Im absolutely impressed with people's talent on this board. One that stands out in my mind is the '58 Corvette from the Roadster Shop (I think its a '58 ). The reason I decided to not start a new thread is because Im one thats unknown and felt that this is a great thread to come in on.

This build is out of the "norm" for me, but I cant and wont turn down a good paying customer. Its a 1989 Toyota Supra. He will be autocrossing this thing. It will be a very nice Pro Touring car. I'll have more pictures coming in the near future of other builds currently in my shop. I hope you guys like it.

The Roadster Shop Vette is a '62...but I'm a big '58 fan and obviously a '58-'60 would also look great in that style. IMO they're a great example of what Tracy was saying; what having the "right customer" will do for a shop.

I have to mention CPR Streetmachines in San Diego. 2 owners + some hired hands so not the high capacity shop that can do you car in 3 months.
What they have going for them is:

• HONEST! A deal is a deal is a deal
• Great fabrication skills and ingenuity.
• Some of the best welding work I've seen stateside.
• Turbo specialists.
• Next door to prof paint shop, engine builder and chassis dyno shop.

Bruce Harvey- ProComp Custom- He did my 34 for me when he was local in WI. Now hes out of Pittsburgh. Known for his painting hes done some pretty trick rods over the years. He had his 1930 "Ratical Rod" at Columbus.

For restoration I would have to say MCR (Muscle Car Restoration) also local to me but they have put out some of the finest 100 point cars Ive seen.
