I think you're right Allen. That looks like it was nothing but a harness bar or chassis brace not a roll bar. I don't see a halo or forward tubes, just a main hoop.

That's a really unfortunate accident, BUT I don't think the bolt-on factor had the fault for what happened to the top, bolt on cages are as strong as welded ones, what makes 'em weak is the placement, I don't think that cage was bolted right, or placed right, I mean, it wasn't strong enough for the weigh of the car all on the top of it, and, of course the cage broke the floor and bended, if a welded cage is poorly welded can do the same, or if it's not right placed too. I think one of the most important stuff to do the math while installing it is the roll cage. ALWAYS is important to do the math about safety. Bolt on cage is the option I want to use for my car, as soon as I get one .

Looks like there is another Ford modular motor ready for a kit car build.....

Glad the driver was ok. But he needs to have a chat with whoever installed that cage.

OMG
Im surprised the driver substained minor. The flattening of the roof would make me think otherwise.
Agreed- nothing wrong with bolt in as long as you dont have this guy do it.

Anybody on here who builds cages for a living?? Curious as to reason for failure. The bar looks as if it was mounted to the rocker area vs the floor. Could the size of the pad made the difference? Although one would have to assume some art of it was simply bolted through the floor? Wish there were better pics. Could it have been unavoidable because of freak point of impact and how car landed?

By the way it did work to some degree as he walked away. Either he is one short MF of very lucky!!!

Shouldn't the safety standards set forth by the Feds have required a top that would not flatten out like that?

Aren't they suppose to hold like 2 or 3 times their weight for a certain period of time before they have a failure?

That might as well have been a rag top to start with.

Damn!
