Yea, real fun.. I have one from today where she really lost it and then recovered it.. the passenger was a little shakey afterwards.. lol

Penskes were worth every friggen cent.. And the car rides nicer as a bonus. We ended up ditching the rear bar and dialing in a some more rebound.. voila it was like a diff car. The body rolls and moves but the suspension stays planted. The power from the 454 comes on hard but smooth and is easily managable. I'm sure Mary or Dave could explain it better.. I was working most of the day and not able to have much wheel time.

We ran the 68 through our slalom test.. we crushed the previous best time of a car on street tires.. hell, we weren't far off Milt's car on the race tires.

Happy camper tonight even if I'm having some wierd t-stat problem..

Shouldn't you be dialing the car in with you driving? After watching Mary at RTTC, she seems to like a very loose setup.

I was working.. Mary was playing.

And if it works for Mary there should be no reason it wouldn't work for me. She likes a loose set up.. but it seems my suspension works better loosened up a bit. Both Mary and Dave are very good at driving and then saying "needs more x" or "it's too XXXXX"

This was the first day.. we will work on it a bit.. dial out some roll and monkey with springs and settings.

Rome wasn't built in a day.. but we made good progress.

Just thought you guys would enjoy this.. dialing in the new Penske shocks.. money well spent.
I just bought a full set of the 8300s about 4 months ago while completely starting a redesign of my race car's suspension, so I haven't used them yet, but I expect to be as happy I was working on finishing up the front suspension design today and thru this weekend, the rear is done, so hope to get on the track by Oct before snow falls.

You have just learned how important shocks are to a car's setup It is so amazing how important shock setup is - way more than many other components that people tend to over focus on. Glad to see you are happy with the purchase and that is great you could get a Penske guy to come out and tune for you!

And having a fast driver set your car up is actually a great idea - you can learn to drive fast v. tune the car to your slower driving. Loose is fast

I find it most interesting that your car is better without a rear bar... it is a common question with race 914s - some cars like them, some don't. When I had an open diff I preferred without, but with the new LSD I intend to add a bar to the rear... who knows, maybe I can tune the car faster without it as well. Food for thought, thanks for the post.
