I am not sure why there are not more Mustangs
done in the PT/G machine style.
Obviously there were MANY more 65-69 Mustangs built than there were 67-69
Camaro's.
A couple of drawbacks to the 65-66 Mustangs is that tire size in the rear is limited to about a 255 (some of gone bigger but it is a stretch!)series tire in the rear w/o going with a mini tub. Also big block motors don't fit in the 65-66 cars w/o shock tower removal..
On the other hand an advantage that the 65-66 Mustangs have is that they are much lighter than their Camaro counterparts. Usually 400-500lbs. depending on options and modifications
Personally I am happy that PT Mustangs are more scarce.It makes my car stand out

We're working on some upgrades on our '62 Galaxie to help push it in the direction.... tubular arms, oversize bars, brake upgrades, steering upgrades, wheels/tires, etc. to add to the EFI and electronic trans already in the car. Also working on a Shrifter install. This big sled isn't going to eat any C6's, but we're trying to get it set up properly so that it's more fun to drive. Hard to imagine a big bomb like this with 14x6 pie tins, drums, and no sway bars. Scary.

IMO it is largely because many mustangs are owned by resto type folks who want to have ever chalk mark in the right place.....and chicks.

i have a nice rustfree 64 1/2 coupe, 417" windsor/5spd, 4w disk, shelby style everything. imho, early mustangs need way too much to make a good PT car, once you spend money to make it fun to drive, and IF you drive it hard, the car starts literally breaking apart. afterall the very early mustangs were meant to be throw away cars, basically the kia's of the 60's......so when you start throwing more power, bigger tires, and push the car.... the car just cant take it.

mine actually has sentimental value, and i have about 1 billion times more money into it, than it would ever be worth.... so im keeping it, once the projects clear out a lil, i will be doin a complete makeover on the car to make it perform the way i want it to, for years and years. untill then, its sitting on a body dolly 1/2 dissassembled waiting in "line"

What was Carroll Shelby thinking when he put together the GT 350's?
In spite of being a "chicks car that was a a throw away Kia of the 60's and the fact that they literally fall apart when driven hard" they were able to win 3 consecutive championships. This was accomplished by often times beating real mens cars that were built to stand up to inconcievable levels of abuse and not be any worse for wear. ...

Way to go Scott! I have also decided to post in defense of Mustangs.For being throw away cars, they are fetching pretty dam good money.

Not being afraid to mod rare cars, my Mustangs while not truely PT, IMO, they are close. The 1971 Boss 351 is a real boss car. 1 of 81 produced this way. It has had the engine stroked, 13" Baers, sub connectors, TKO-600, Global West all around, nascar swaybars, ect..

The 1965 is a true GT car. It has a stroked 427 windsor, 250 shot NOS, global west all around, fuel cell, ect. It's getting a rear 3 link, engine compartment detail, Ron Davis radiator, six point cage, accel EFI, and supercharger.

Forgot about the 71 Boss, my personal favorite. The 65 and 71 handle extremely well. I would say better than the 69 Camaro. Don't know abou the 70 yet, its not ready.

Like I said above the most interesting cars in PHR over the last few months have been Mustangs (and the poison dart). I'd love to have an actual GT-350 race car to drive the hell out of.

It's ok if you drive a chick car. Could be worse, my room mate races a Miata.
