Thanks for the suggestions but I went through those listings and no remote mounts with oil thermostat built in. I've broken down and accepted the fact that I am going to take it all back out and replumb it with a separate oil thermostat.

C & R makes an inline one the you can just put in the line

Controlling air volume only works when the cooler is air/oil. Mine is water/oil, so blocking the radiator is impractical.

Personally -- I think I'd do almost ANYTHING other than attempt to restrict the volume (flow and pressure) of my oil.
