in search of more power.....can a mild 350 support turbos..with a little psi

i am searching for a little more performance out my motor ...i cant seem to break low 13's but i know it has it in hear...it is really stong mid way but not alot down low.....just looking to break low 13's maybe 12s can a mild motor support a turbo making small amounts of boost.....twins or single......not looking for a kit but a home built kit to stretch my fabbing ability......looking to get 500-600 rwhp...is this obtainable with a mild 350 non forged bottom end but all new parts?.......looking at maybe a cummins or some other diesel turbo to make a single but for a street car i heard the take alot of rpms to spool so i heard it is just better to go with twins......any help......liek i said i am not looking to break any lamd speed records just a little performance..... whatscha think

Yes but be prepared to break stuff. If a little boost is good, more is better, and it's sure easy to turn it up. I had an all cast internal twin HY-35'd 327 in my 67 Chevelle. I think those turbos were a bit large for my application but it would start making boost around 2500 if I just stepped into it from idle. I broke the ring land off the number five piston after about a year running 7psi, but It was an old motor. The engine builders on this site will probalby cringe, but used forged 350 pistons are cheap on ebay. I have a single hx-35 making 12psi on a injected 302 with forged pistons, stock crank and rods. I blew the head gaskets once, but replaced them with better ones and installed ARP bolts. I currently run 12psi on the street. It spools almost instantly. I highly recommend EFI for helping a turbo motor survive.

so in reality there is no insurance ....it may or may not support it... i want to build a boost ready motor but funds dont allow right now being 19 and in college....even a small single turbo my motor wouldnt withstand...

do you know that your motor now is probaly only 300 rwhp?? and you think alittle more is to double it?? good luck, i would throw a 100-150 nitrous shot onit and call it a day

You can get an adjustable plate system for $400. Run that and start aquiring parts for the turbo set up.

It's hard to say for certain what your motor will withstand. I don't have a lot of experience and the guys on this site with the experience probably run all forged internals on all their motors. Check the jyturbo site.
