Thank you all for the welcome!
Yep, this was S.W.'s car, although it had another owner for the last several years. As the car came with very little documentation, S.W. was kind enough to tell me quite a bit about it, and send me several hundred build photos. S.W. has a reputation as a great guy, and I can tell you he has been very helpful to me.
I am trying to find out more about the car, especially motor specs, but have not yet been successful.
It will finally be nice enough in Minne to drive the car this week, EXCEPT I have the valve covers off for a refresh of the straight lining. They are going out tomorrow for clear anodizing to make them a bit more scratch resistant. So my patience will have to continue for a few more days.
I will say I had marginal interest in buying any car at B-J as the prices are usually at the top... and certainly zero interest in a BLACK car (yeah, they're great when clean, but the maintenance is a PIA). But when I saw this one, I seemed to have forgotten all that.
I can say it is very unnerving (& maybe very foolish) to buy this type of car at an auction, where you have had no opportunity to research it, only heard it run for a minute, not spoken to the owner, and not even driven it. Talk about a leap of faith...
As I said before, I am hoping for no major surprises.
I know it needs new tires as the ones that came on it are about 10 years old. I'm thinking BFG Rivals, but figure I may as well vaporize the old hides that are on it first.
I will let you all know how it goes as I find out more.
Thank you all again for the warm welcome!
Bill

Thanks for the explanation as I was trying figure that out.

You right about that Leap of Faith to Buy a Car that you haven't driven. I've bought 3 Cars sight-unseen and was shaken in my boots til they were delivered. I'm glad to say everything was fine all 3 times. The 1st one had some issues, but I knew about them before hand. It's funny, but I sold that one and then bought it again. I could say that was sight-unseen again as I hadn't seen it for a few years, but I knew the car and had helped the Owner with some Carb Issues. The 2nd time around, the car was not anywhere near the Condition I had sold it. So I sold it again and vowed I would not buy it a third time.
