Put your pitchforks away guys. You don't know the circumstances surrounding his "child abuse" or statutory rape charge. There are a lot of people on sex offender registries for "child abuse" and statutory rape that did nothing but have consensual sex with their legally underage yet socially acceptably aged partner at the time. Meaning they got thrown in jail and had their lives ruined for doing the exact same thing you yourself most likely did while a teenager or young adult. It's sickening the extent to which government and prosecutors have ruined the lives of people by getting convictions for normal behavior. It's only compounded by the use of blanket, ambiguous terms like sex offender. I'll get off my soapbox now.

The guy still sucks for stealing someone's car and wrecking it though.

The owner of the car made a post on a Camaro board on Facebook. He took the car to a drag race event and was bringing it home when it was stolen. The owner is a 30 something guy who's had this car since he was 15 years old pouring his money sweat and tears into it.

I'm glad karma came quick for the thief however I'm saddened by the loss of the car for the owner.

Personally I'd like to hear what the owner and staff at Restore A Muscle Car has to say about the car being at their shop. What did the guy who brought it there have to say? So many questions....

Trey,

I understand what your saying however, in the past 5 to 10 years in Illinois and most other states consensual sex as minors or High School has changed. I know this first hand as my cousin is a County Prosecutor and this is exactly what she does and we have had many discussions about it and she explained the new laws. It's very rare that kids get prosecuted any more.

Trey, I get what you're saying. As with all things, yes....there are some innocent people in prison that may have been wrongly convicted, there are others who were wrongfully terminated from well paying jobs, etc. I get all that. I'm just speaking from the norm assuming he was wrong or got his due process and was convicted had he messed with a child. Had he not, fine, that's between him and GOD. But, oddly enough, he had a wrap sheet, so that sort of speaks about his character. That's where I formulated my opinion. I doubt very seriously if the legal system kept getting it wrong and was just picking on him. Like I stated, he got what he had coming to him. Maybe, I'm too passionate about this kid thing because I'm a firefighter/paramedic and I've personally seen it far too many times when it has happened to innocent, beautiful, helpless/defenseless children while on shift. Being that he was a thief also makes me think about the old saying, There's no honor amongst thieves.

I'm off my soapbox now too. LOL!!

How the hell did it get that crushed no other cars involved? pretty crazy. I will the sex offender part alone. but just goes to show you that a cage might be necessary for our cars. Feel bad for the owner.

I think it was the fact that he the ditch so hard and tumbled and I agree these old cars are not that safe and the cage will definitely help to some extent. Somewhere there is a thread that I started talking about this exact topic and Ron Sutton jumped in and shared his knowledge and talked about how to make these car safer.

Ive always thought that some sort of front subframe to firewall support would benefit these cars tremendously in a wreck.

To start with he was thrown from the car suggesting that he was not even wearing a seat belt. Once the driver's door came off he was probably thrown.

The damage to the car was probably from flipping and or rolling once he went off the road and hit the driveway. Adding components to make the car more rigid do not necessarily help the occupants survive. Modern cars are designed to collapse around the cabin and absorb energy doing so. The more energy that gets scrubbed off means the less g forces and impact your body is subjected to. Your belts or harness are designed to spread the load and stretch some to help reduce the peak force you would experience. Of course keeping the occupants within the cabin is the first thing and keeping the cabin intact is another.
