Went to Riviera Maya on my honeymoon Theresa. I'd go again in a heartbeat!!!! Beautiful place. We stayed at the Iberostar Tucan resort.
I highly recommend snorkling right off the coast (2nd largest reef in the world!). Take a day trip on the ferry to Cozumel island (30 minutes each way). Also, don't miss an opportunity to go to the coastal ancient ruins of Tulum. We split a day tour, morning to Xel Ha and afternoon at Tulum, it was awesome! Xcaret was overrated we heard so we didn't see that. The other thing I would have liked to see is more of the underground river system "cenotes" and the ruins at Chichen Itza. Bring drops for "Swimmer's Ear" and don't drink the water! I got a nasty ear infection the day before we left, the plane ride was torture!
Ben
Thanks! I really appreciate the ideas! I'm just now starting to think of the things we can do when we get there... Thank you so much, you're ideas really help.
Not planning any vacations this winter. Just had my wedding and honeymoon a couple months ago. Right now I am saving most of my money so that I can move to Charlotte in July. I can acually get a morgage on a nice size house over there for less than my $1300 rent payment for my one bedroom apt here.
Theresa...What Ben said... The ruins at Tulum, Uxmal, and Chitzen Tiza. Cozumel is a great island with very friendly people. Xcaret is a underground river that you float in out to the ocean. They have blasted holes in the rock above to let light in and the water is absolutely clear. I first went maybe 20 years ago and it was really a treat. I went back a few years ago and it was more like a disney ride with the line to get in snaking back and forth. Back then you could actually climb the Pyramids. I don't know if you still can. Up the coast from Cancun near Playa Del Carmen is Akumal. Akumal has a neat bay with a reef to snorkel on. There are cannons on the sea floor left over from long ago...
