The car looks great out side. It's nice that you get to put some miles on it to get it sorted out.

The car is at the upholstery shop getting done. Rear package shelf is now covered and installed. Also, wrapped the extensions that go from package shelf to the headliner. These are normally just painted steel pieces.

While at it I wanted more than just the normal back seat panels that are textured plastic, so he wrapped them in the same black material and added the houndstooth as well. I have yet to see anyone ever do this on a Maverick.

And here is the beginning of the back seat. I bought a second set of front bucket seat foams. We are using them to make a bench seat that will have the same contouring as the front seats.

More on this to come....

Also, a staff writer from Street Muscle Magazine reached out to me a few weeks ago having seen pics of the car here on Lat-g and he wanted to write it up. It went live online yesterday.

Incredible work. As great as this build is, I'd love to see more of the 55.

Here are a couple pictures of the 55. In case you didn't read the whole thread I will tell you that this is the same 55 Bel Air that I built as a senior in high school in 1987 with my dad. I even drove it to my senior prom. We sold the car in 1990-1 regrettably. It was always the one that got away for me. So in 2006ish I started looking for it. It took until the fall of 2015, but I finally found it in Florida. The drivetrain had been changed, but the entire body, paint, pinstriping and interior are 100% the same as we did 30 years ago! I probably had a better chance of winning Lotto than finding the very same car in almost the exact condition as when we sold it. It will NEVER leave my possession again I can assure you of that.

The car was built with an early 60's ild custom style to it.

Here is on the way to prom in 1987......

And here it is from this summer.

We cannot get enough of that interior. For some reason the houndstooth print is just really doing it for us. We can't wait to see everything when its done being upholstered!

Thanks, and I agree, I LOVE the houndstooth. I don't remember when or how it came to me. But at least 5 years ago I know exactly what materials I wanted for this interior. Back seats are being sewn now, so more pics to come soon!

Thanks, I feel exactly the same way about it. I will die owning that car. Others may come and go, but never letting the 55 go again.

Progress on the interior has been slow, but steady. Door panels are now installed for the last time. All new reproduction arm rests and handle are being used as well as the power window switches from for the windows. No more cranks! We decided to have the pleats spread out as they go towards the rear of the car, just something a little different.

Rear seat back is getting there too. Not done here, just a sample. This should be done Monday then he will start covering the base.
