Technically it was not IRS it was a DeDion Tube rear suspension.

Looks like an IRS to me..... this particular version may have its own name. A DeDion Tube Rear Suspension is an IRS, but a suspension that is an IRS doesn't make it a DeDion Tube Rear Suspension.

Yeap you are correct. Up until 3 weeks ago I had never even heard of a DeDion. I bet most have not since they made I believe, 1. Whatever the heck it is, it is way ahead of it's time.

Technically, the DeDion isn't independent. Both ends are tied together by a common member. As far as camber control is concerned, it's exactly like the standard live axle.

It's biggest advantage is that you're reducing unsprung weight by suspending the differential from the chassis.
