That was my thought as well, you look at 95% of factory cars and they have a floating caliper out back. Most have them up front as well. The C5 Z06 had a floating rear caliper and the C6 still does. Good enough for me...

Todd, Unless I'm mistaken, re: the current corvette (06-up) Z06 rears, I believe they are fixed mount? The "base" car Z51 are floater style, though.

I used a similar rationale when I chose the C5 Z06 rears. That's turned out well because the braking has been really good with no noticable knockback.

I dropped the old girl off at JSL design & engineering yesterday morning to get the frame repaired. Couple good guys down there. Jim brought in his own Tig machine from his house to do the job. He's 65 and has been around the block a few times. He races karts all over the west coast and these things go 160 mph! He said his time at infinion was 4 seconds faster than the top qualifier in the Sprint Cup race last Sunday. Anyway, I stopped by today and he's got one side about 80% done. He still needs to add the gussets to the bottom front and inside front. He's really doing a really nice job and I feel good about the work. He said grinding out and merging the tig and mig welds has been the biggest challenge. It's always tough for me to give up the reigns. Should be done tomorrow. This ain't going to be cheap but I'm just not ready to start over out back with new frame rails and a different suspension system. I've spent way to much time finding the feel with this setup that I desire. Then I get into tearing up my trunk, fuel system is in the way, have to find the balance again.....

When he says it's a bitch to merge the two welds -- he's not kidding... my guess is that the MIG was done dirty... and it's now spitting and popping at him when he's trying to TIG over it. TIG does not play well with grease and dirt and old paint... And the crack - even ground out - is hiding all manor of yuck inside the "frame rails". Calling those "frame rails" is kinda like saying I'm tall.
