Started out by seeing what it would look like behind the timing cover. Other than a missing chain it looked good. After that we pulled distributor out to see if maybe the distributor gear failed. All good there. Spun the oil pump from up top and seemed OK. Pulled the intake and found #5 intake push rod snapped in half, #3 exhaust push rod bent, #6 intake push rod bent. Pulling heads off in the morning.

That will end in some bent valves. Does your spec sheet mention the timing chain maker and part number?

I'll let Gaetano fill in the details. I think he got lucky but we will get the heads pulled tomorrow and know for sure.

Oh man Vince I hope that's the case!

I pulled the lifter from #5 so far just to see if it was marred in any way since the pushrod literally snapped in half. Lifter looked fine to my surprise.

This is a real odd deal and we are trying to get to the bottom of what may have caused this. The pushrods are 5/16 diameter so its not like they were pinners. I do expect to see some bent valves but I think Vince thinks I may have dodged a bullet. We'll see in the morning.

Tomorrow morning we will pull motor. Then we will pull heads off and take a peek. Once the heads have been pulled and inspected I'm going to take a look at the oil pump. Something had to have jammed somewhere in order for the chain to snap. I have never seen a timing chain fail before so I would really like to get to the bottom of this.

The timing chain is a PBM double roller

Hard to determine if it was the chicken or the egg. My SWAG is chain link came apart and and caused a cosmic valve train kiss that caused the push rods to bend and break. Obvious that it was during #5 suck.

Im certain PBM = Pull Broken Motor

As the old saying goes, **** happens. You may as well stroke, bore it, better heads, and a much larger cam while it's apart. Scratch that, put one of them limp wristed LS thingymajiggers in there. Just promise me you'll put turbos on it so I don't hear it while I'm passing you.

This thing will never see an LS....you can count on that! I am considering another set of heads though. I think a set of Dart Pro 1 Platinums should get me up around your HP range
