I just got the new Road & Track. Very clear and beautiful photography on the Challenger concept. Yup, they made it clear that the Challenger is just a concept. But Chrysler has a good track record of issuing realistic concept vehicles that turn into actual cars.
As for the heft, they make it clear that Chrysler is basing the Challenger on a shortened 300/Magnum chassis 110" wheelbase. Which hopefully means that the car will be viable as a mass produced vehicle--no limited production. To further that point, the article states that Chrysler NEEDS more production capacity for 300/Magnums. Adding the Challenger is a good way to secure the future of that additional factory.
I'll look past a little heft if it helps heat up the pony car segment. Besides small, impractical pony cars are part of the problem. Most people just do NOT want another cramped 4th gen Camaro. New millenium pony cars need to be more practical in my opinion.
