So how many broken torque tubes have you seen? Especially with carbon fiber shafts?

Well actually seen in person....not many. I know Bob Johnsons broke at least once that i know of, im thinking maybe even twice. There is a local guy in town that has a Z06 (02' ish) with a procharger and he has had problems keeping his together. They are really cool and i hope yours works well I just havent heard many good things about them when it comes to making lots of power.

I'm not certain, but I think what Bob broke in his Cuda at RTH was the input shaft to the trans-axle. Travis - you may be speaking of a different instance. I think he had a few different issue initially that needed sorted out. I seem to remember that the failure was mainly caused by some fairly severe wheel-hop. I can attest to the fact that it did have some wheel-hop problems. The track wasn't ideal either. I believe they remedied this after the event, but I'm not sure what all was done (shock valving, bushings etc.????)

Anyway, I have absolutely no experience whatsoever with torque tubes, so take my comments as you may.

Well Bob did not have a torque tube in his. They converted it to a drive shaft in the car. Which allows you to mount the transaxle at a different height, then the engine. Bob also had wheel hop problems, which is not good at all on heat treated gears or regular gears, it kind works like a grade 8 bolt, it shears before it bends.

There is a local guy here that has a Stock drivetrain corvette that is almost in the 8's, Stock trans, stock diff, stock torque tube, He is waiting for something to break and has been waiting for about 1.5 years and it keeps holding up.

Try calling your chevy dealer and see how hard the parts in your torque tube are to get. I called and the rubber joints in the torque tube were only in Michigan, the local dealer here has never had broken torque tube, except in an accident where they totaled the car.

I have talked to about a dozen guys who have put major power thru a Corvette and they all say that the diff is the weak link. Neil Lea in Alabama did the C5 drivetrain thing like 5 years ago with a big block and he beat the crap out of that thing. The new ZR1 corvette will be running a torque tube with a 100,000 mile warranty.

Like I said I hope yours works...it appears you have done some research and thats great. 650 Hp or 500hp which ever John decides on is not a ton of power anyway. Good luck hope to see at least one of your projects with this set up done this year so we have first hand knowledge.......

Default Your car is pretty over the top

From a practical side, slapping a cam in the LS7 the car is going to fly with no hastle or extra weight. From an in your face look, of course the blower would be very cool, but the compartment may get a little busy(not that that is a bad thing, just tight). I like the Maggie or the Kenne Bell blower so as to not have so much stuff going on and still have the impact.

You could really step out and put the new Kinsler IR intake on that bitch..

Regardless of what you do you car if one of my favorites... and feel free to PM me your Porn star loft shoot story. LOL
