I went with SSW mufflers, 3" pipe all the way as well as thier headers. I love the way my 540 BBC sounds. Not overly loud for the street or highway but when you get on it...... they sound sweat!!

I run a $32 muffler I picked up at Autozone. 3" in and 3" out...but that's after the electric cutout. On my LS6 Sonoma.

I used Race-Pro mufflers from Pypes that came with a 409stainless 3" kit for my chevelle.

The reason I used them was the cost of the full system was very reasonable but I have been pleased. Interior noise is significantly less than the flowmasters it had before.

They might be too quite at times but I am sure my neighbors would disagree. The exhaust note is nice from behind the car. In front of the car the cammed LS valve slap overpowers the exhaust note. Inside the car it is reasonably dB levels. I can reasonably hold telephone conversation on the interstate due to the insulation but still get plenty of compliments.

My original plan was to run these until I decided to cough of up money for one of the Borla pieces but now I have decided to stick with this since it works out so well

I can't answer the question for Todd, but my preference is turning them in. The reason being any exhaust/oil is blown toward the center of the car rather than on the tires.

I am running Hooker Aerochamber mufflers on the Camaro and love them. They have that crisp chambered muffler sound but almost a straight thru design. They are pretty mellow at cruise rpm's but rip when the skinny pedal is pushed...

We have run Magnaflow on most everything unless doing full 304 stainless exhaust. They sound great on just about anything plus no drone which I hate the most. I need to take a video of the 455 Pontiac with Magnaflow, sounds great. The 480hp crate LS3 with DSE headers was just plain nasty sounding when you stepped on it.

I'm running Xr-1s with a BBC...not too loud at idle and screams when you put your foot in it.

Here's an older video with the mufflers dumped in front of the axle. I've since added tailpipes and it's a good bit quieter and higher pitched.

By the way, I'm running a Ram Air restorations oval x pipe kit from the headers to the mufflers. It's a nice kit, but the transitions from oval to round to go into the mufflers are too long (which keeps you from tucking it up much). I kinda feel like they defeat the purpose of the oval. Just my .02.

I really like the XR1's. My only complaint is I kind find them with an offset or outlet which would have helped packaging.

I agree with your comment almost 100% .......

Except, that I was never planning on changing to something else. I have Race Pro's flowing through a Pypes 2.5" stainless system with their X-pipe. At idle and cruise it is not a resonating nightmare, but when you get on it, it is a simply awesome sound!!! It is my opinion that an exhaust system can brag the best flow numbers, but sound like crap......and in the end, entirely personal choice. It's like buying stereo speakers or choosing a wine

Magnaflow, 2.5 with an Xpipe. It's much better than the old chambered mufflers I was running.

I tried a Dynomax Ultra Flo on my truck, but there's too much drone. From now on its Magnaflow for me...
