So with all the changes and evolution of the Optima/Ultimate Street Car group, the American Street Car group, etc etc I have decided I want to follow a sanctioning body that is more stable and "set" as far as any rules go for compliance purposes. I figure if I am good for a NASA/SCCA deal I should be fine for the current and future rule sets of the "pro touring" type groups. But no guarantees there.

I became interested in AIX when I first started talking to Jake about his 2nd Gen Camaro a few years back when he was running in that series back east with his suspension approved for it. It is real wheel to wheel racing (not something I'm interested in immediately, but very possibly down the road) but its 2014 rules look to be a close fit to what's done or planned for my car while at Fab53. I've discussed with Brett and we plan to see how close we are currently and what any add'l work entails when I am down there (hopefully) in 2 weeks.

As a long time NASA CMC competitor, there is no way I would run a car like yours in AIX. It is a great series, but I just can't see wasting a vintage Camaro body in wheel to wheel racing. The guys race pretty clean, but you WILL get hit. That's just part of racing. Just my .02.

I was hoping to elicit some good feedback on this. Wasn't sure what I'd get here. I have thought of that issue but thought contact was pretty rare. I figured I'd start in TT and then if I felt the urge eventually maybe move to AIX if W2W is what I craved. You make a good point and something I need to strongly consider.

How have you enjoyed CMC? What car have you been running?

CMC was the most fun I've ever had in the car hobby. There is nothing that compares to wheel-to-wheel competition. I ran the #87 Mustang for several seasons in Northern California before moving on to Motorola Cup (Continental Tire series). I also ran another Mustang in Texas on several occasions. NASA CMC was way more fun than the pro series stuff at a fraction of the cost. You can tool around at the back of the pack and minimize chances of body damage but front runners typically do some rubbing. It's not a crash and bang show by any means, but things happen and even good drivers make mistakes. In my experience, the majority of cars will sustain damage at some point either from their own driver's error or someone else. I typically budgeted a once per year freshening and repaint but some seasons it stayed pretty clean.

We typically ran Sears Point, Thunderhill, Laguna Seca, Buttonwillow, and Willow Springs. We also occasionally ran Phoenix and a street course at Pomoma. Sears Point was my home track and I really miss it living on the East Coast now.

Stick to NASA Time Trials Dave and it will be just as fun. Kevin Smith is running the NASA Time Trial gig under Albert Butterfields lead but Albert rarely needs to bother with Kevin as it is a well oiled machine as it is.
Neil, dont remember seeing you at any of the NASA CMC events. Mostly know Mike Plum and Adam but glad to see you on this site and look forward to more input. I as well wanted to run AI but didn't feel like bringing home somebody elses paint so I stuck with TT and get out as often as I can afford but mostly with NCRC now due to budget constraints. I normally will hit a NASA TT event when they are at Sonoma since NCRC doesn't hold any events there.

Pretty decent tracks around here. Sonoma is my closest track these days about 30 min away and can't wait to run there.

I think you are probably right about TT. I can't wait to get out there with ya. This summer it should happen.
