Opinion on grill

I have waited to respond because I cannot get over how cool the thing looks without the grill on. Man that was a ton of work and I think it is one of my favorite parts of the car.

I would leave all of that work exposed and place the grill at the very back of the opening....try it stainless, painted body color, whatever works, but please leave it exposed!

Steve's right, the wheels are worse offenders than the grille. Sinking the grille with black bars and polished faces or milling a narrow surround with a billet insert and just doing a cenered SS style grille would look good.

First off all, Hat off's to you for driving such a killer car across the country!! I saw the car last year at SEMA & the workmanship is second to none. I personally did not care for the grill. It's not that it kills the car I just thin it would have looked better with something different. As said earlier, it kind of dates the car. The metal work behind the grill is beautiful. Is there a way to incooperate it to be shown & build something else? I know..ALOT of work. Some others have thrown out some good ideas. I also agree with Steve, the flamed wheels and steering wheel are a little much in my opinion. As you well know though everybody will be a critic & pick things apart. Etheir way, killer car. You guys do some nice work!!

It would be neat to build an egg-crate style grille for the center opening with very "deep" rectangle cavities approximately 1.25" tall x 2.5" wide, painted silver/argent color...the extensive work behind the grille is really slick, I had never noticed it before!

Actually, I showed it Scott around 4 months ago. I think it would work, but it wil take some time to develop. The 69 headlight door would be perfect.

Sparky....where should I mount this on my car to fix my grill?

I think it would look much better if everything behind it were painted satin black. I know you said there's nothing else on the car that's black, but IMHO, you should never be able to see anything behind the grille.

I would paint everything behind it black, and tint the headlights just a bit to make them less noticeable. I would also paint all of the vertical bars that hold the grille together black also. Doing all this would put the focus on the grille itself, and not all the stuff behind it. It would look pretty clean then.

I uderstand the black behind the grill thing to hide everything behind, but painting behind the grill and radiator support is NOT an option on this car. Painting the grill bars black might be a option. Remember this IS a show off car, and black back there just will not work on this car.

Then again Pete, I never noticed all that incredible metal work behind the grille. It's time to stop hiding it. The center opening is small enough that you can take a factory 67/68 RS grille and cut it down to fit. Then build a shiny stainless or chromed perimeter frame for the new cut down grille like the surround used on a 69 RS grille. Paint the plastic grille whatever color looks right to you-titanium, charcoal, argent.

Whats up Steve, when we first built the car, I wanted to leave it with no grill, but in the end we decided to make a grill. So now I am thinking of leaving it out, thats why I asked what people thought. We are changing the wheels, steering wheel, interior (again) stereo (killer) rear wing, and a few other small changes.

Thanks, and I agree the wheels and steering wheel are too much. Alot of the parts were bought for this car before it came to my shop, including the wheels, and steering wheel. We changed so much after it came, that we had to stop somewhere. Now its time for a change, so the first thing to go is the wheels, and steering wheel, I never liked them anyway.

The only way to make changes: See Kris Horton and have him do some 3 D renderings for your car with updated grilles.

I'm sure there is way toooooooo much money in this car already. It woulkd be good and wise money spent prior to making addtional changes that may or may not look correct on the car. What the heck do I know? My 2 cents.
