Got the stuff in hand now, it's exactly what I needed, tho after getting a final count I could have used a smaller one, don't need anywhere near 36 wires...lol.

No pics yet, but I'll get some tonight for sure, and more over the weekend as I start wiring.

Ok, here's your pics.

Panel mount receptacle, twist lock plug, 2 cable clamps that thread onto the plug and receptacle and have clamps to hold the cables, and a whole mess of expensive pins and sockets, gold plated, rated at 13 amps each.
And of course the extraction tool, so I can pull a pin when I screw up.

SWEET!

Looks good, but I was expecting a stainless/nickel housing. That would look killer.

Otherwize, it looks awesome.

Good find!

AWSOME!

If you were to order again how many wires would you need for the recepticle?

Which vendor did you decide on to purchase the plugs?

My company has an account with Newark, so I ordered from them.

All the variations and part numbers and such are still a real bear...even after doing it once. There is a chart that shows the different connector body sizes (shell size) and there are different numbers of pins and layouts in each size.

The pins and sockets are all common, and available in either 16-18 gauge or 20-24.

Each engine and ECM will of course vary some but I ended up with:

IAC = 4 wires
TPS = 3 wires
Inlet air temp = 2 wires
Injectors = 5 wires
Distributor = 4 wires
Coolant temp = 2 wires
Fuel Pressure gauge = 3 wires

That looks like it totals to 23.
So the one I got is perfect, cause the max number of wires in the next smaller shell size is 23, and then I wouldn't have any room "for future expansion...lol."

I'll get a pic up of the completed harness tomorrow. It's looking pretty trick. I got this woven nylon cable covering from cableorganizer.com in a few different sizes, sealed the ends with heat shrink. Harness looks very trick and professional. And when the air cleaner is on, ALL the wires disappear! You'd swear it was a carbed car.
(Injection is Holley 4bbl TBI)

Great Info Jim!!

Which cable covers did you get from cableorganizer.com? This is exactly what I want to do when I start wiring the firebird. Great stuff!

Does that mean I have to have an account with Newark? Can anyone purchase from them or are just selling to distributors and large companies?

Sam

My company is anything but large. I think anyone can purchase from them these days, dunno. I tell my office manager what to buy, it comes in the brown truck, bill comes in a few days...lol

Now to go wire up that plug.

Oh yea... the stuff I got from cableorganizer is caled "Black PET" I got some in 1/8", 1/4" 1/2" and 3/4". The stuff expands a lot, you can get 3 wires into the 1/8", and the half inch held my whole bundle of 23.

Part number for the 1/4" is BS025BK

ok, I got me an engine harness!
Every connection crimped and soldered, all solid as a rock and ready to plug into the soon to be mounted firewall connector.
Interesting how you can see thru the harness sleeving with the camera flash. You can't see thru it in real life.

And the best part is, while the back of the motor is "rather busy" when I put the air filter on, you cannot see a single wire!
