Dude, great story. I must admit, it's nice to hear some street justice is done every now and again. If you've never been ripped off before (car, house) it's hard not to want to see someone pay for it, on the spot. The fact that you are in So Cal and still addressed this guy is impressive. It seems like thieves get away with everything down here and never have to pay, even when they are caught. Hats off to you for having the courage, and if we ever do business, I'll make sure you get paid same day since I know your personality now--LOL.

Dead thieves don't sue........

It's too bad you didn't inflict more damage on him.

Good story, screw that guy and his rights, once he steps over the line into your yard he is fair game. You should have put your foot in his mouth who cares if you hurt him. In the old west desert were we live we get to pack so people like this don’t really do this kind of thing. Everyone around here carries guns to take care of people like this. You don’t hear about carjacking and that kind of thing around here and when you do they usually end up dead. Dead men cant sue

Oh, he got hurt alright! When he lunged at me with the screwdriver I wrapped his arm with mine and locked his wrist in my armpit. I hit him HARD with my elbow to his throat! I guess that's why he went down so quick!

Once he was on the ground I had a knee in his chest and my forearm on his neck!

He squirmed a little but as soon as I started applying forearm pressure to his throat he knew he was screwed so he dropped the screwdriver and relented!

My neighborhood is full of dog owners so people are constantly walking their dogs at all hours. Luckily my neighbor was walking his dog when this all went down so he just pulled out his cell phone and called 911.

I thought about it afterwards and, you're probably right, I should have just called the cops but I tried that before on another attempt of another car I had and he left before they arrived. I guess I let my emotions get the best of me but I was so pissed the last time this happened and I wasn't going to let him get away this time!

John

When they walked up the guy was screaming bloody murder about how I had used excessive force on him, blah blah blah. They just told him to shut up, cuffed him and threw him in the back of the patrol car. They did tell me next time I should call them and not confront the guy but one of the officers took me aside and asked me how I took him down. He gave me a thumbs up and a pat on the back!!

You should have seen the look on my other neighbors faces!

They already think I'm crazy since I'm always working on cars in my driveway and my mustang is loud! They probably think I'm some super violent guy!!

I'm glad you caught him but could have been a different story really quick.
I would rather risk my life than watch my heart and soul being taken from my driveway, I am sure alot you guys would feel the same.

I beat up a kid in 7th grade for stealing my lunch. If it was my car, oh God they would be laid out on the ground with a broken jaw, nose, teeth etc... It takes alot for me to get mad, but once I do, all hell breaks loose and I loose control. I might not have had the restraint to keep from trying to kill him.

Boxing lessons FTW!
