Whoa! I cannot believe that blue 67 brought over $100k! Makes me, and prolly many others here, want to put theirs into BJ.... I am seriously contemplating going to BJ when it is time to sell.
The fact that that car brought almost 20k more than Empty Nest just shows how crazy this auction really can turn out!

Steve, that's a given. But that Camaro can be built for less than what someone just paid and that speaks volumes to me.

I was at the auction. A nearly new Ferrari went for 77k 2 cars before Emptynest. I felt a bad vibe in the air before the car went across the block. It takes two to tango. That car was at 80k in literally 30 seconds and stalled out at 85. What a steal somebody got. I didn't have the heart to call Frank. That car was built for Lisa and I feel a little on the personal side. While a beauty not really mainstream in my opinion. With that said, on a different night it could of went for double...... Who would of bet on John's car going for more money? Nobody

But you're paying for more than that sometimes.. lets say you could build that car for $90k.. But you would have to wait a year or more to get it.. you would have to hassle the build and then you would have to shake down the car.
This is instant gratification.. you want a '69 pro-touring car on Friday.. you buy it Saturday and you're driving it the next week. Some people are willing to pay extra for that luxury.
Without seeing the car in person it's hard to know the quality.. if it's high then it might be in the $100k range to have someone build it. These cars up fast.

Yeah, 80k seems on the low side for that build. (In my opinion, anyways.)
Unfortunately, a lot of people do not know/are familiar with a "real" pro-touring car. They think a good set of brakes, an LSx engine and some nice low profile wheels/tires and they you go!! You got yourself a pro-touring car.
This car was BEYOND that, as we all know. It was a true pro-touring build.

Hey guys. just so everyone knows. The day I started the build on that car I knew it was a Firebird and would have half the value of a Camaro. But we wanted to build it because we knew it would be beutiful, and that it was.
So when John and I decided to come here we set kill ourselves numbers, OK numbers, and really happy numbers. I was prepared to buy it back at $50k, At $60 would not be happy, but would not kill myself. And thought it would do $80k to $100. My DREAM number was only $125K. I knew being a Pontiac it would not do the big numbers some predicted. When i saw the number like $150K, $250 on different boards, I sure as hell could not say that and kill my own auction before the sale. But I thought unless it was a total fluke, I thouht $125K was the end of the world because it was a Pontiac. Pontiac guys are mostly original guys and have not embraced the car, and I knew that going in.
Sure I would be happier with more money, but I am good. Like I said, it is Firebird, not a Camaro. It served its purpose, and I am completely OK. And that money is more then enough to build another car.
I will say this was a 100 things to do before you die experiance. When you roll up there you are at the mercy of the audience, like being in front a jury! One of the most exciting things I ever have ever done.
I honestly believe I put it in the right atmosphere at the right time (considering current times) and I believe it brought the most money it would, and I do not have to spend 2 years advertising it.
In closing, I am heading home Tuesday and will try to buy a Cobra (killer replica) with a 427 side oiler in it to take to Scottssdale. So yes, I am happy and have the feaver now.
So please, no pitty party. I am just fine.

Being the promotion freight train you are, you understand better then anyone this was never built for profit. I absolutly knew it would be half the value of a Camaro the minute we rendered it. It was one of those cars we had dreamed up, that we wanted to see done, that Lisa wanted to have for a while, and put it on our list of 100s of cars we have owned. Lisa like myself has a short attention span for cars. We got to see it finished, and got the promtional value from it. Even selling the car was promotional, PT had more people signed into one thread at one time then ever before on the thread over there. We got to leave the Prodigy Customs window banner on it (never happens at BJ but negotiated up front), handed out 300 brochures for the car and 500 brochures for Prodigy Customs. I have potential builds and a couple new parts customers, other builders and public.
So while for obvious reasons I would have loved more money, in the end I call it a win and will start another right away that probably won't make money.
