Didn't he get shot in his office over a lady he was seeing? I do remember people saying. If you had a COLE FLAT you were the baddest boat on the lake

We'll never know the shooting story for sure. The version I was told is that's the cover story...

Cole flatties were great! And Jim and company held many records at one time. Boaters are the best, next to car junkies of course. They'll help anyone out, any time! Marina stories are f'n hilarious...

It's a successful game the large percentage of their customer base wants to play. Same game applies to the auto industry. Tell the customer what they want to hear and due to their lack of technical knowledge and real world experience, what they don't know won't hurt them.
