Been having starting problems with the new engine and getting "cam sensor" error code

Worked with Scott Brown today on it and foumd that the connector was worn an not giving a cam position signal (so the computer just guesses)

Fixed that and was still getting a code... but it started more often

My LS2 is an early using an E40 computer.. as such its a 24x deal. When we built the 454 Comp accidentally sent us a newer single bolt cam. To get around this we used an LS3 cover and gear. I was focused on the 24x part that we didnt think of the 1x versus 4x cam sprocket deal.

Now mu com is looking for one pulse and getting 4.. So from a cam sensor perspective the computer is seeing 4000 rpm when the engine is ideling at 1000 rpm ... luckily the rev limiter and most functions read off of the crank sensor.. still, we think its hurting performance somehow. Just not sure how.

So, will the 1x cam srpocket even bolt to the single bolt cam? Can we "make" it work? I need to grab some parts and find out

The best fix would be to program the computer to recognize the 4x sprocket in the car.. dont know if that is possible.

Anyways, mystery solved an lesson learned.. make sure ALL of your parts match up.. lo

Looks to me that you could use the 3 bolt cam gear right on the single bolt cam - and then get your single pulse signal...

What I'm thinking is that if the pin is in the right place - or at least the same place on both gears (or perhaps you could drill a new one?) -- so that they're located correctly.... then weld up the 3 bolt holes - machine 'em flat - and ream/bore out the single hole to accept your single bolt...

Am I an idiot or what.... ??

No.. that makes sense. I tried my 1x gear on a 1-bolt cam ant it fits, but the reference hole is bit loose, not sure that matters that much.

I wouldn't think the three holes would need to be filled.. will know more when I compare all the parts.

When the single bolt cam surprised us I din't evem think of the 4x gear.. my brain just saw the half moon shape and rolled with it..

The loose hole could be BUSHED to make it fit correctly -- I wouldn't want it Sloppy - especially on a high revving single bolt...

The other solution my be to drill and tap the cam nose?

I was thinking the holes might be welded up because if you have to enlarge the center hole - you might end up with a real weak center area... wouldn't want that flying apart!

Funny about Comp Cams sending you the wrong thing --- I ordered a custom cam from them for my "rebuild" - and we ordered a harder billet for the cam - and they sent it without the pressed on distributor gear. That would make me have to run a bronze or composite gear on the distributor. Which I'm not doing on a street motor.

I bagged that cam and ordered a new one - same specs - but with the pressed on gear from CRANE - had that in two days.... and the motor is very very happy and so am I!

In there defense I'm not sure i specified.. Everything up until now has been three-bolt.. Like I said.. live and learn

The 4x cam deal is superior to the 1x .. just that my E40 isnt fond of it..

Drove the car 100 miles today.. what a blast

Do you still need a gear? I can make another one. I was thinking about selling these things because it is becoming a big problem.
