Jody - thanks for keeping this up! I have to apologize for not jumping in sooner but it was a long week and despite the marvels of technology there is only so much time in the day.
This was a great week for all three (six) of us. The Vintage American class was really tough this year - six cars started, five cars finished, and four cars made it to all of the events. Jimi and Saroja did a great job wheeling the Centerforce AMX despite dealing with a variety of issues over the week. Carl and Jon in the Honor Flight Camaro likewise rocked the event and ran a great race. I think that it says tons that Jimi and Carl were actually TIED for second in points with their final placement being determined by overall cumulative times.
I think that it also says a lot that between the three Pro-Touring cars (and actually all five competition drivers) we each had at least one personal first place finish during the week. It was great to be able to caravan during the transit stages and the One Lap organizers actually went out of their way to create a Muscle Car run group that included ourselves, the rest of the VA cars and a factory 5 Daytona coupe. I think everybody got a kick out of seeing the "old cars" holding their own with some incredible supercars.
For Mary and I this was a great event. We had no major mechanical issues (that kept us from competing) although the OLC will be down for the foreseeable future with a hurt engine and tired transmission. Going in to this year I was concerned about the mill and Daytona took its toll on us and the LS7 is done. We finished 21st overall - bracketed by a prepped Z06, a Panamera, a gutted 5th gen and an ACR Viper. This was our best finish ever and I'm really proud of Mary and the David's prep work on the old girl.
I was also really touched by the support thoughout the event. We had people come out to every event - often wearing our 2013 t-shirts - to show their support. On two occasions forum members chased us down at gas stops to talk and encourage us on. I never would have imagined such support and can't thank everybody enough.
I would be remiss, also, not to thank our sponsors - RideTech, HRE, Baer Brakes, Centerforce Clutches and of course Pro-Touring.com! I'm also thrilled that last time I had looked we had raised almost $16,000 for our charity - the EvenStart Foundation for Children. I'm glad that our love of Motorsports and competition can benefit such a worthy cause.
That said - thank you all and good night. We'll work on getting some pictures up later in the week once we've all made it home and gotten some much needed sleep.
Cheers
James
