The problem was my machinist under bid the dashes pretty badly and said he would never make another one so I figured the supply was going to be even harder then the demand. Well with all the press this car is getting the dash seems to be a pretty well asked for part. But we will see how many more people will actually buy a 5000 dash for their car. I maybe pretty surprised.

I know well how economies of scale works Rodger, but if your guy is underbid on one @ 5k, does making more compund his problem or is he happy to just have the work?

He is not under bid at one. That is price he will make them at.

The old price was 4000 bucks and I have sold 9 or 10 of them. Some of the guys who got in before we machined a prototype were a little less. But at 4k I could not get my machinist to even think about doing anymore once he figured out he under bid it.

With machining there is never a point your just glad to have work. The up keep on those big expensive machines makes it mandatory that your profitable alaways. That would be like you driving across country for gas money alone, there is no economics that will ever make that worth while. EVER.

When you put into perspective what a DSE stamped steel flat dash panel costs for a '69 Camaro -- what a pro shop would have into it with layout - cutting - mods to make it be "different" -- paint prep and paint.... The $5K isn't far off what all that would cost. Or if you factor in a shops cost to give a guy a complete custom dash... then it's most likely cheaper! And it's KILLER KOOL!

True that.

But most people will not understand the effort they will put into something in reality until they have it invested and they have blown their wad of money in the process. So hindsight is always 20/20.

We did a billet dash and glove box for this 1966 truck we are building with an early dash in it. I don't think there is a truck guy on the planet that will pay 3000 for billet dash for their 66 truck and 1500 for a glove box. So you also have to build for the market.
