Greg,
good to hear your car is sorted and running
Its all about having fun and hanging with your buddies
I am heading to Texas but my buddy who runs my
GoPro is staying here... need to get him to show me
a few things before I head out...Like how to turn it on...
one more thing to do before I go... will see how bad I screw up it up
While about a dozen of us had a great BBQ at the track - with much needed "refreshments" and a couple pots of my special recipe "bean dip" to soothe our hungers until the BBQ could get fired up -- the fight was a total dud. Oh well.
Gasman was a no show.... as was Gaetano... and Dave G.... as was Lilllard - who was unfortunate enough to have actually gone to LV to view the fight... thus missing the epic BBQ around the TV outside in the afternoon sunlight... Too bad for him.
The car has never worked better... Sutton is definitely on his game... with both the modifications and the driver coaching. Can't thank him enough for everything he's done on my behalf. It's making my driving weekends so much more fun.
Not bragging here -- it's just fact.... I've been running with NorCal Shelby Club now for about 4 years. Not once have any of the OTEC <the guys running the track sessions> guys come over to talk to me... but this time they had eyes for the little yellow Mustang and many of them came over to express how much fun it was to watch it and hear it. Even the Club President came out late Sunday to run with me. He'd been watching all weekend and decided he should come out and "play". We had so much fun! OMG! He's a way better driver than I am and I had to really work to stay with him - or keep him off my ass.... He also came over to the pit to thank me and say how much fun that was. It's nice when people recognize your improvements and say so. The perfect topper for a great weekend.
When we started this (my engagement of Ron Sutton Race Technologies), I was running 2:22's and driving my butt off to get those times.... I can now drive 'easier' and have more fun - and run 2:07's.... The biggest different is how much easier and more predictable the car is. The goal has been met and exceeded. Everyone's track times were off this weekend. Not sure why - but it just is what it is... and the goal was never to set a track record. I don't have that talent. The goal was to be able to go out have fun - and run with my friends while taking it easy (thus the fun part). In the past my friends have consistently run 2:10's.... With the "new" car -- I can practically coast and run that. GOAL MET.
Hey Greg!
Thanks for having me rework the Mustang suspension & brakes. I'm glad it's more fun to drive & you now love driving it. Another thanks for having me come along on your recent track weekends. Frankly that is some of the most fun I have all year. Love it & appreciate you having me there. Lastly, thanks for being the great fella you are that we all love. It sure was a fun weekend.
If you can fit your long frame in it, you should talk Greg into driving it once. It may look like the same car, but it doesn't drive like the same car for sure.
The "crew" that were and are all Charlie's friends -- that I was lucky enough to be introduced to via him -- Pete - Big Mike - Chet... are fun to be around ... and they can drive pretty well too.
Pete sent me a link to his FAR BETTER GoPro video.... in both of these - which you won't be able to tell from the videos -- it's Pete (black Mustang) or Chet (White Mustang) and Me running round and round....
Personally I've never been comfortable being in the lead -- I like to chase and play from behind.... I'm just not the guy that cares if he's in front or what my times are. I love dropping back - then seeing if I can catch up -- or run a different line - or climb their ass and take a look inside or outside. I'd have been a terrible racer. Winner like to be up front. I don't.
